Escape Velocity
Ever wonder why rockets are so massive?
And why is soooo much power required for liftoff?
Physics aside, that’s how a rocket achieves Escape Velocity.
Escape Velocity is the speed something must travel to escape the pull of gravity.
Your gravity
Your gravity is your current reality. Your comfort zone.
This includes your “work,” relationships, habits, goals, and more.
Let’s call this your Current Self.
If you’re not happy with your Current Self, you’ve gotta blast through the gravitational pull that’s keeping you (comfortably) in place. That’s how you become your badass Future Self.
And that self-transformation requires Escape Velocity.
This requires extreme power and long-term focus.
So, how do you generate rocket-like Escape Velocity?
Achieving Escape Velocity
This is something you intentionally manufacture.
It doesn’t happen through chance or wishing.
Slow, incremental changes to your career or life won’t generate Escape Velocity.
It takes bold commitment and radical changes. It takes saying “no” to the crowd.
(Remember, more of the same just creates more of the same.)
You need to:
- Release “constraints” (you have permission to dream)
- Surround yourself with radically different people/ideas
- Program your mind to make escape “inevitable”
- Specify your Future Self (set intentional aim)
- Commit to new, life-altering behaviors
How I did it
You might know my story: after 10 years in management consulting, life came crashing down.
I needed to build a rocket that would help me achieve Escape Velocity, catapulting from Current Self to Future Self.
Here’s what that looked like:
- Healing and setting a vision (with therapists, coaches, mentors)
- Re-engineering how I showed up at my intense corporate job (reduced average workday from 10 hours to 5 hours)
- Establishing new norms and rhythms for self-care and family time
- Then, surrounding myself with entrepreneurs, creators, and authors who 100% inspired me to want a bigger and brighter future
- Experimenting for 18 months with various side hustles before locking in on this “Uncaged” mission (essentially, serving my Past Self)
- Creating a financial runway to boldly leap from the corporate safety net and become a full-time entrepreneur
That’s just my path. But of course, your circumstances and aims are different from mine.
